Drawing by Alfred Leopold Isador Kubin, Austrian printmaker and illustrator, 1877-1959.
Kubin’s work was called “degenerate” by the Nazis during World War II, but he continued to work during the war. From 1906 to his death, he led a withdrawn life in a twelfth-century castle in Zwickledt in the Austrian Alps.
Kubin was an artist of symbolism and expressionism, and much of his work revolves around monsters and death.
