From that time I painted “Bad Hair and Buzzers”, … This poor lady caught the bad hair affliction that went around the north east in the late 19th century. Her hair was uncontrollable; it would go off in odd directions and would look like deer antlers from a distance. If she cut it, it grew back immediately during the overnight. Exasperated by this malady, she found a paste that she could apply to her unruly coif that would hold it in place. Unfortunately it attracted large “buzzers” that swarmed around her head. The noise they made and the force of the air patterns made by the fluttering insect wings made conversation impossible. She was also no longer permitted to attend opera performances or allowed to shop in any of the local stores. #throwbackthursday
